St Catherine businessman arrested for taxes owed
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says a St Catherine businessman who owed more than $5 million in taxes has been arrested.
The TAJ says the man was arrested during an operation involving its Special Enforcement Team and the Jamaica Constabulary Forcer in Old Harbour.
The man has been named as Zepheniah Aarons, the Principal Director of Jamaica Metal & Recycling Project.
He was arrested on a court order for failure to honour his outstanding tax obligations of individual income tax.
TAJ says the order was issued on October 24 last year, but Aaron failed to liquidate his tax liability in the time specified by the court.
TAJ says delinquent taxpayers are advised, that any default on payment arrangements or court orders, will result in robust enforcement action by TAJ using any of the various tools provided for under the law.
