Arscott expected to name NSWMA board this week
A new board for the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is expected to be announced this week when Minister of Local Government Noel Arscott makes his contribution to the Sectoral Debate.
A reliable source told The Gleaner yesterday that Cabinet deliberated on a submission made by Arscott for the new membership of the NSWMA board.
Efforts to reach Arscott for a comment on the composition of the new board were unsuccessful.
Earlier this month, chairman of the board of NSWMA, Steve Ashley, resigned following strong criticisms from Arscott of his dismissal of the authority's former executive director Jennifer Edwards.
At the time, the local government minister said some board members had expressed unease about the manner in which the non-renewal of the executive director’s contract was managed in the midst of last month's major fire at the Riverton City dump.
Edwards later took the matter to court seeking an injunction to quash her removal from the agency.
However, she subsequently withdrew her court challenge against the board’s decision not to renew her employment contract.
