Gov't to extend Safe School Bus Programme to Manchester

The government is to extend the pilot Rural Safe School Bus Programme to schools in Manchester come September.

Transport Works and Housing Minister, Dr Omar Davies made the announcement yesterday while making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in parliament.

Phase 1 of the programme was rolled out in Clarendon in September 2014 through a partnership between the Transport Authority and the Clarendon Parish Council.

It was implemented at three schools in May Pen.

Following the success of the first phase of the pilot, it was decided that the programme would was extended to an additional 4 schools in May Pen in February 2015.

The pilot programme has benefited in excess of 35,000 students in Clarendon to date.
