Atkinson wants Falmouth declared a resort town
Member of Parliament for Northern Trelawny Patrick Atkinson says he will be taking steps to have Falmouth declared a resort town once critical infrastructure work now underway is completed.
Such a designation would make Falmouth the nation’s fifth resort town, joining Portland, Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Negril and Kingston.
However, Atkinson, who is also the Attorney General, says certain infrastructural and social issues must be addressed in a fundamental way before this can happen.
Speaking during a tour of the Trelawny capital on Thursday, Atkinson said making Falmouth a resort town would also allow for the establishment of a resort board that would ensure the area is properly developed.
