Shortwood alumni seeks support

The Shortwood Teachers' College Alumni Association (STCAA) is appealing for mass public support as it stages its annual fundraiser to finance charitable projects.

This year, the STCAA's 90th anniversary fundraising venture is a banquet, to be held at The Knutsford Court Hotel on May 2.

STCAA has for many decades reached out to Jamaica's youth by offering scholarships, bursaries and awards at the secondary and tertiary levels, and by donating to charitable organisations.

Scholarships

Each four-year period, two high-school students are assisted through school. Scholarships, grants and awards are also given to Shortwood College students each year.

Annually, too, donations are made to established organisations such as YWCA of Jamaica, Jamaica Save the Children Fund, St Andrew Settlement Professional Development Institute - Girls' Town and the Jamaican Association on Intellectual Disabilities.

A small financial contribution is also made to the college.

This year, in addition, the STCAA hopes to assist in establishing a Reading Resource Centre at Shortwood Teachers' College.
