Finance and Planning Minister leads delegation to Canada
Finance and Planning Minister, Dr Peter Phillips is to lead a Jamaican delegation to Canada today in a bid to further deepen the trade, financial and investment relationship between the two countries.
A release from the ministry says the delegation will hold talks at the ministerial and parliamentary levels of the Canadian government.
It says these talks will focus on ways of assisting Jamaica’s efforts in addressing its debt servicing and external financing challenges.
The ministry notes especially that Dr Phillips will hold discussions with representatives of Canadian Council of the Americas and private financial institutions and firms involved in investment overseas.
The ministry notes that the Council lists its primary objective as stimulating the expansion of Canadian commercial interests in Latin American and Caribbean markets.
Meanwhile, while in Canada, Phillips is scheduled to speak with members of the Jamaican Diaspora in Toronto on the progress of the country’s economic reform programme and the challenges facing the economy.
The delegation, which includes the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica, Brian Wynter; Financial Secretary, Devon Rowe; and the Technical Advisor to the Minister, Helen McIntosh, is expected to return to Jamaica on Friday.
