Detectives from the Major Organised Crime and Corruption Agency (MOCA) have arrested five policemen and a civilian in Western Jamaica on reasonable suspicion of corruption and larceny.

Allegations are that on Wednesday April 22, the policemen seized a boat which was believed to have been used in the illegal drug trade.

The boat was reportedly seized after it made its way into Jamaican waters from Costa Rica.

It is understood that the policemen and the civilian then allegedly solicited a large sum of money from the boat's owner in exchange for not filing charges and the return of the vessel.

A report was made to MOCA, an investigation was launched and the men were taken into custody.

The names of the men are being withheld pending further investigations.
