Police appeal to residents with second killing in Bedward Gardens

A second murder in Bedward Gardens in just four days has caused the police to, yet again, appeal to residents to tell what they know.

A 40-year-old female resident of the St Andrew community was killed yesterday. She is Maureen Whittaker.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reports that Whittaker was shot several times by unknown gunmen along the Dallas Castle main road shortly after 7 o’clock yesterday evening.

Investigators suspect that she was shot in full view of several people, but say residents have been reluctant to come forward to assist with the investigation.

In a statement today, CCU appealed to residents not to provide safe havens for friends or relatives who they know are involved in criminal activities, as it is a criminal offence. They also reminded residents that they may also put their own lives at risk.
