JLP supporters protest against Myers

Former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Councillor Gregory Myers has formalised his switch to the People’s National Party (PNP) at the monthly meeting of the St Elizabeth Parish Council yesterday.

However, a group of unhappy JLP supporters – some labelling Myers as Judas – showed up at the council meeting to make their concerns known.

According to the JLP supporters Myers should have done the honourable thing and given up the division before switching sides.

While the PNP councillors welcomed Myers, the JLP minority was not pleased with the Minority Leader, Councillor Jeremy Palmer calling the move an opportunistic one.

According to Palmer, Myers made the switch to extend his political life after being rejected by JLP delegates.

Amid the criticism Myers said that he did the best he could have with the limited resources that he had.

He said no councillor is able to fully meet the needs of their constituents.

Myers has maintained that his concern has always been and will always be for the well-being of the residents of the Southfield Division.
