Corporates Ready For Labour Day

FILE:| The NCB Foundation decided to once again join hands with Food For the Poor to construct not just one but two houses for beneficiaries in St Thomas and St Ann as part of their Labour Day initiative for 2014.

n On Labour Day, May 25, GraceKennedy and Staff Community Development Foundation plans to remove gravel from the play area at Higholborn Street Basic School and plant grass to make it consistent with the regulations of the Early Childhood Commission. They also plan to donate shelves and books for establishing a reading area in the resource room.

GraceKennedy Staff and their family members, residents of the Parade Gardens Community, parents and teachers of the school will participate.

n JMMB Group team members and their family will join forces with two marine entities - UWI, Mona Centre for Marine Sciences and the Montego Bay Marine Park-to tackle coastal clean-up on Labour Day.

Locations will be a section of the Port Royal beach and in Montego Bay along the beach and mangroves on the Free Port main road. The coastal clean-up project is designed to preserve the natural coastal ecosystem, which is being eroded from improper solid waste practices.

In addition team in Ocho Rios will work in conjunction with the Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay chapters of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, to give a much needed facelift to the St Ann's Bay Hospital.

n The Guardsman Group will provide assistance to police stations in Montego Bay Freeport, Ocho Rios and Negril:

The Negril Police Station will be landscaped to include the planting of flowers and trees on Saturday, May 23 in Negril when 18 officers of the Courtesy Corps will participate alongside Guardsman Group staff from Negril, Mandeville and Kingston.

At the Montego Bay Free Zone the building and parking areas will be painted, some landscaping will be done and a new urinal and basin for the bathroom will be installed.

In Ocho Rios Marksman will paint the Ocho Rios Police Station.

n LASCO will be providing support to a number of projects in institutions in the Central Village and Spanish Town area with donations in kind.

n Digicel, CB Chicken, True Value and ACE Supercentre will team up with the New Forest Primary, Junior High and Infant schools on Labour Day to continue building a perimeter wall to protect children as well as to repaint the school building.

n National Commercial Bank Teams will be working at the:

- Spanish Town Hospital paediatric ward

4 Elleston Primary School

4 Mizpah Primary in Manchester where they will be refurbishing a corridor and doing some painting. NCB previously donated two containers and will refresh them.

4 Waltham Abbey Primary in St Ann

NCB's Adopt a School programme across all its branches in the island will result in beautification/renovation activities within and outside Labour Day for these selected primary schools.

The four Labour Day projects will engage more than 600 volunteers to execute volunteer hours for children. The volunteer corps consists of staff, directors and scholars. The budget for the activities is in excess of J$4 million.

n Jamaica National Building Society

4 Brown's Town: Team will be working at the Chester All-Age and Clarksonville All-Age schools, doing painting and renovating at both institutions.

4 Duke Street: Painting the St George's Girls' Primary School

4 Half-Way Tree and New Kingston: Painting the Half-Way Tree Primary School, May Pen and Bushy Park Early Childhood Institutes with the assistance of between 10-20 Act!on Jamaica volunteers.

4 Morant Bay: Beautifying the premises of the Robert Lightbourne High School

4 Ocho Rios: Giving a facelift to the Trinity Primary School

4 Port Antonio: Minor repairs to classrooms and painting the Port Antonio Primary School

4 Santa Cruz : Repairing the library at Schoolfield Primary and Infant School

4 Junction: Painting three classrooms at Red Bank All-Age School and cleaning up the accident and emergency department of the Sav-la-Mar Hospital.

The Whitehouse Money Shop team will be repainting and branding the bus shed at Petersfield as well as replacing windows and donating a fan to the Whitehouse Health Centre.

4 University of the West Indies: Painting the pedestrian walk way of the Nell's Learning Centre as well as doing work at Stella Maris Prep School.
