The Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) has hit back at the Mining Ministry’s response that Noranda bauxite company is not mining outside Cockpit Country boundaries agreed with the government.

JET’s chief executive officer, Diana McCaulay, says the situation is confusing.

She says no mining should have been allowed in the vicinity of the Cockpit Country in the absence of official boundaries.

She is lashing the government for allowing the confusion to continue even though a government study on the boundary issue has been completed since 2013.
