Hellshire bridge to be repaired
Cabinet has approved a contract in the amount of $63.4 million for the rehabilitation of the Hellshire Bridge in St Catherine.
The contract has been awarded to Y.P. Seaton and Associates.
The transport and works ministry says that the bridge, built in 1964, was last repaired some 30 years ago. It said that the current state of the bridge makes it a threat to both life and property.
The bridge, which was taken out of service last November, is the only link to the community of Hellshire, home to some 5,000 persons. Residents have been using a temporary facility to access the community.
