World observes Int'l Missing Children’s Day, OCR makes appeal to J'cans
The Office of the Children’s Registry (OCR) is appealing to Jamaicans to remember children who have been abused and to support families of missing children.
The OCR made the appeal as Jamaica joins the world today in observing International Missing Children’s Day.
The agency notes that missing children is a tragic, global phenomenon and that Jamaica is no strangers to this.
The OCR says during January to December 2014, 1, 984 children were reported missing while a total of 2, 205 children were reported missing during the same period in 2013.
It says this represents a 10 percent decline in the number of children reported missing from 2013 to 2014.
Additionally, the OCR says the number of children reported still being missing at the end of December 2014 reduced by 214 children, from the 467 recorded at the end of that same period in 2013.
