Court withdraws ganja charge against man waiting to stand trial for nearly 40 years
A court has withdrawn a ganja charge brought against a man who was waiting to stand trial for almost 40 years.
In a statement yesterday, the Justice Ministry, said senior magistrate Judith Pusey withdrew the ganja possession charge that was laid against Paul Works on December 15, 1976.
It explained that the court took that action on May 15, following an application a week earlier by the Legal Aid Council.
It is reported that after Works was charged in 1976, he attended Court on a number of occasions without the matter being heard.
The case was later adjourned without any future date being set.
It remained a pending criminal matter on Works’ criminal record for 38 years.
After withdrawing the charge, the court provided a letter informing the Criminal Records Office of the disposal of the matter.
