Footprints: Roy Gordon - Outstanding preacher gone to eternal rest

Published:Tuesday | June 9, 2015 | 12:00 AM

Pastor Roy Agustus Gordon has passed away after a brief illness. He made the transition at age 73 on June 2 in Sunrise, Florida.

Gordon was born on June 11, 1941, in Port Antonio, Portland. Thirty-seven years later, he was ordained into the gospel ministry.

But before that, he spent time at Portland High School from 1963 to 1966 and West Indies College from 1966 to 1970.

His internship was completed at the East Jamaica Conference between 1970 and 1973.

From there he went on to become an "outstanding pastor and evangelist, who, with the help of the Holy Spirit, won hundreds of souls for the Kingdom of God".

In his ministry, he was district pastor, and later became youth director at the East Jamaica Conference. He also served in the Bahamas Conference and in The United States.

His return to Jamaica was followed by retirement, but he migrated to the States "where he lived with his family until his passing".

To reflect on his passing, Gordon has left his wife, Marjorie Elaine; sons Roy Jr and Winston; daughter Cynthia Gordon-Wellington; five grandchildren; brother, Renford Taylor; sister Maureen; and other relatives.

The details of the funeral arrangements are to be announced soon.
