A former policeman has been sentenced to six months imprisonment at hard labour, for stealing a motor vehicle.

Thirty-year-old, Phillip Steele, from St Mary, was sentenced yesterday in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate Court in St Elizabeth.

Following the verdict his lawyer, Raul Lindo, said they would be appealing the decision.

He then successfully applied for bail for the ex-cop.

Steele was arrested and charged in 2009 after he was found in possession of a motor vehicle that had been stolen in St Elizabeth.

At the time of his arrest, Steele was employed as a member of the Island Special Constabulary Force which has since merged with the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

His employment with the Force was terminated following a guilty verdict on May 5 this year.
