Two in custody after chopping death of Portland man

Two men are now in police custody following the chopping death of man on a farm at Ross Craig in Portland yesterday morning.

The dead man has been identified as 30-year-old Rohan Jermaine Deans, a farm worker from Commodore district in Priest-Man’s River, Portland.

According to a police report, Deans reportedly had an altercation with the two men shortly after 10 yesterday morning and machetes were drawn.

Deans later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at hospital.

The two men, who also suffered chop wounds, were arrested by the Castle police.

The police say the men, who are co-workers of the deceased, reportedly had a long standing dispute, which escalated on Thursday.

The men are scheduled to be questioned by detectives from the Port Antonio Criminal Investigations Branch, after which charges are expected to be laid against them.
