Police recover batteries stolen from Clarendon cell site
The Clarendon Police have arrested one person and recovered several stolen batteries in what’s being termed a breakthrough in the theft and vandalism of cell sites in the parish.
The arrest and seizure of the eight batteries took place yesterday during an operation in the Palmers Cross area of Clarendon.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hornet Williams, says the latest incident of vandalism and theft took place over the weekend.
He adds that another eight batteries are still unaccounted for.
DSP Hornett explains that thieves sell the stolen equipment to scrap metal dealers.
The DSP says while various measures have been put in place to safeguard transmission towers, criminals still find ways to vandalise equipment and disrupt operations.
