CARICOM reparation fight to continue at annual summit

When Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government meet next month for their annual summit, they will be pressing ahead with their fight for reparations.

Host Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart says progress was being made towards Reparations for Native Genocide and Slavery and the leaders would continue fleshing out the required initiatives.

The Barbadian leader, who chairs CARICOM’s Reparations Sub-committee, says they believe it is necessary to have talks with former slave trading countries like England, France and Holland.

Although Freundel says the region has done well in trying to bounce back from slavery and colonialism, black people continue to be affected by the slave experience.
