SOS Children’s Village comes to Wortley wards rescue
Operators of the SOS Children’s Village have indicated they can provide long term accommodation for the 19 Wards displaced by yesterday’s fire at the Wortley Home for Girls.
The Youth Ministry says the Child Development Agency (CDA) has deployed a team of clinical psychologists and social workers to provide emotional support to the wards.
Fire fighters are still trying to determine the cause of the fire which destroyed the section of the 90-year-old institution which houses the dormitory.
The Youth Ministry says while some of the girls were shaken up by the incident, none suffered physical injuries.
It says the CDA and the management of the Wortley Home have made arrangements for them to be housed at an undisclosed location in the Corporate Area for the remainder of this week.
The Youth Ministry says the SOS Children’s Village has indicated that it can house the girls until a decision is taken to renovate the Wortley Home or permanently move the girls to another facility.
