Jamaica is not the only Caribbean country now struggling to find solutions to combat water shortages due to worsening drought conditions.

Director of the Water Resources Management Authority in St Lucia, Terrence Gilliard told The Gleaner/ Power 106 News Centre that a water related emergency has been declared in that country.

He says authorities there have also had to institute water restrictions.

Gilliard says water resources available there have continued to decline considerably.

He says the island nation may have to increase water restrictions to manage the problem.

The water restrictions prohibit the use of potable water for non-potable uses.

There has also been a strict schedule of water rationing by the private water company, Water and Sewerage Authority.
