Vascianne demits office as ambassador to the US

Jamaica’s ambassador to the United States, Professor Stephen Vascianne, will demit office next week Friday, when his three-year contract ends.

A statement from the Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Ministry said Ambassador Vascianne has chosen to return to academic life at the university level.

It added that Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has commended him for his outstanding service to Jamaica. 

The Prime Minister reportedly noted that the Ambassador’s stewardship was shrewd,  resulting in several diplomatic initiatives that have enhanced and strengthened relations between Jamaica and the US.

According to the statement, the Ambassador paid special attention to security cooperation, human trafficking, deportation, and the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.

Professor Vasciannie, served as principal at the Norman Manley Law School prior to his appointment as Ambassador to the US in June 2012.
