Dr Dayton Campbell ... 'the policy of giving refunds instead of loans does not help the goal of home ownership.'

Member of Parliament for North West St Ann, Dr Dayton Campbell, says Jamaicans who have been contributing to the National Housing Trust (NHT) and who do not qualify for a loan should not be forced to continue to contribute to the statutory agency.

Campbell says too many Jamaicans cannot access loans from the NHT despite contributing for years.

He says it is unfair that these persons are denied the ability to own a home.

The MP says the policy of giving these persons refunds instead of loans does not help the goal of home ownership.

Campbell also appealed to the governing PNP to do more to increase the stock of low-income housing so that poor Jamaicans can have access to home ownership.
