The Westmoreland police have charged a man with manslaughter in relation to the death of a policeman in the parish on Monday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Ferguson informed our News Centre of the latest developments.

However, he did not provide the man's name.

The man is expected to be taken before a court soon.

Constable Curtis Lewis, who was attached to the Westmoreland Division, was hit by a motorcyclist while on traffic duties on the Sheffield Main Road.

It's reported that the man defied a signal to stop.

One of the cop's legs was severed on impact.
