Teacher guilty of assaulting schoolgirl pays $100,000 fine, escapes prison sentence
A male teacher who was convicted recently for indecent assault involving an underage schoolgirl, has paid his fine to escape being sent to prison.
Randean Raymond, who was charged by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) pleaded guilty and avoided a trial last week.
He was ordered to pay $100,000 or serve six months in prison.
The teacher paid the fine.
CISOCA says it received a report on May 17, that a female student was in a classroom with Raymond when he summoned her to sit beside him.
He reportedly laid his palm on the girl's left thigh and rubbed it.
However, he stopped when other students walked into the classroom.
CISOCA says it got statements from the complainant and her mother.
A member of the school community also gave a statement saying that the teacher admitted that he had committed the offence.
Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigations Branch, Ealan Powell, has lauded investigators in the case.
