Uzi sub-machine rifle seized in St James - Police

An Uzi sub-machine rifle along with three 9mm rounds of ammunition was seized in St James on Friday night.

The Police say the firearm was seized during an operation, being carried out on Mount Salem Road in the parish, by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch.

The Police say that about 12:45 p.m., a team of officers, who were on patrol in the area, conducted a search of a premises when one Uzi sub-machine rifle along with three 9mm rounds of ammunition was found in a gutter behind a premises.

One man was subsequently taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

They Police say the recovery of the rifle is as a result of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's national coordinated murder reduction strategy.
