Thwaites to speak on closure of under-populated primary schools today
Education minister Ronald Thwaites is expected today to make a statement in relation to the under-populated primary schools which are to be closed.
He is to make a presentation on the matter when the House of Representatives sits this afternoon.
Twenty-four schools have reportedly been identified for closure by the education ministry.
The ministry says the closure of the schools is aimed at improving efficiency in the public school system.
However, up to earlier this month it had not named the schools to be closed.
The education ministry had said it was still holding consultations with community stakeholders before a final decision is made.
Meanwhile, the education minister is also expected to make a statement to parliament in relation to the transfer of student athletes.
