Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen says despite the surging crime rate, there are enough good people in Jamaica to cause law abiding citizens not to despair.

He was addressing the 2015 Governor General’s Achievement Award ceremony for the County of Cornwall on Thursday in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

Sir Patrick says the country must pause and remember all members of the security forces who have been killed in the line of duty, and that attacks on the ‘Protectors of the peace’ must end.

He emphasisses that the barriers that divide Jamaicans must be broken down and efforts made to restore the country to being a place where the village raises the child.

At the awards ceremony, 13 residents from Western Jamaica were recognised for their contribution to nation building.

They were presented with the Governor General’s Achievement Award.
