The trial of medical doctor Rakesh Thomas, who is facing sexual assault charges involving two under-age girls, is expected to get underway today.

The case, which has been before the courts since June, 2012, has been adjourned on several occasions for different reasons.

On the past two occasions when the matter came before the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston, the Crown indicated that it was ready.

Dr Thomas is charged with sexual grooming and having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16 years..

It is alleged that Thomas lured two girls aged 14 and 15 to his office and performed various sexual acts with them.

The matter was reported to the police and following an investigation by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, he was arrested and charged in June, 2012.
