Clarendon Chamber of Commerce president calls for more cops in parish
President of the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce, Dr Winston Dawes, is calling for additional police personnel to be deployed to the volatile Clarendon Police Division.
The chamber president’s call follows a bloody weekend in the parish in which five persons were gunned down in two incidents of double murder and a gun-slaying in Rocky Point.
Pointing to the recent deployment of 200 additional cops to the St James division, Dr Dawes says something similar should be done for Clarendon.
According to Dr Dawes, Clarendon is a crime hotspot and the coast of the parish is a known transit point for the illicit guns-for-drugs trade.
The chamber president is calling specifically for an increase in foot and mobile patrols to dissuade criminals from carrying out illegal acts.
He notes that while there will always be murders and sporadic outbreak of criminality, the current high crime rate is disturbing.
