The Clarendon police have charged two businessmen for illegal sand mining in the parish.

Charged are 34-year-old Khalil Latchman and 65-year-old Paul Chin.

The police say the men were charged after they were found breaching a stop order.

According to the investigators, a stop order was served on the businessmen in April to cease and desist mining operations in the Dry River area in Hayes.

However, yesterday the police was instructed to visit the location by Mines and Geology Division and the men who were found in breach and arrested.

The police say several pieces of equipment were seized including a front-end loader.
