Phillip Paulwell ... "This first step to transform the Bogue Plant to use LNG augurs well for the remaining projects to come on stream."

Energy Minister Phillip Paulwell is describing the gas supply agreement signed between the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) and the United States-based New Fortress Energy as a major game changer in the push to reduce electricity cost.

Paulwell says the deal represents, for the first time, a significant move towards diversification of the nation’s fuel sources.

Under the historic agreement announced yesterday, JPS Chief Executive Officer Kelly Tomblin says New Fortress Energy will supply the light and power company with Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) that will be used at its 120-megawatt power plant in Bogue, Montego Bay.

Speaking to The Gleaner/Power106 News Centre this morning, Paulwell said this first step to transform the Bogue Plant to use LNG augurs well for the remaining projects to come on stream, including the 190-megawatt project.
