JLP to discuss Warmington's behaviour tonight
Jamaica Labour Party General Secretary, Dr. Horace Chang, says the party is to discuss the behaviour of South West St. Catherine, Member of Parliament, Everald Warmington at its regular Monday meeting today.
The MP assaulted a Gleaner Intern last Friday at the party's Belmont Road headquarters and launched an expletive-laced tirade against other journalists who sought to defend the intern.
Warmington later apologised but continues to be criticised for his actions.
Chang says the JLP has also apologised to the intern and the wider media fraternity for the 'unfortunate' incident.
However, the JLP General Secretary says it is too early to say if the party’s executive will decide to take action against Warmington.
The Press Association of Jamaica has issued a statement condemning Warmington’s action.
PAJ President Dionne Jackson Miller said the MP’s apology has very little impact given that his conduct was the latest in a series of boorish, vulgar and loutish behaviour towards members of the media.
Jackson Miller says media practitioners are fully aware that they will often encounter opposition while trying to do their jobs, but asserts that the behaviour of the South West St Catherine MP, as described, went beyond what is acceptable.
