Charles Town Maroon Colonel Frank Lumsden has died, ending his battle with cancer.

Lumsden was born in Buff Bay, Portland in 1942 and attended Kingston College where he was an athlete.

He studied in the United States at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he played soccer for the university..

After working in the States for years Frank returned to Jamaica, to Charles Town, where he became acting Maroon colonel in 2003.

On January 28, 2004 he was appointed colonel.

His greatest concern was the dwindling population of the Charles Town community.

From 2013, Colonel Lumsden had been engaging the Charles Town Maroon Council in important debates and negotiations surrounding the decriminalisation of ganja and the establishment of a regulated commercial cannabis regime in Jamaica.

In 2014, his foresight led to the initiation of wrestling in Charles Town for young boys and girls in the community, and there are plans for the establishment of the Charles Town Maroon Wrestling Academy.
