Thomas ... could only manage a throw of 16.62m which came with her second effort having fouled on her first and third attempts.

National female shot put champion, Danniel Thomas, has failed in her bid to progress to the final of the event at the 15th IAAF World Championships because she did not attain the automatic qualifying mark of 18.30m or finish in the top 12.

The former Frome Technical and Edwin Allen athlete could only manage a throw of 16.62m which came with her second effort having fouled on her first and third attempts.

"I have learnt a lot from this experience and I'm proud to be Jamaica's first female in this event at the World Championships," Thomas said.

"‎This has boosted my confidence as I now look to prepare for the Rio Olympic Games," she added.
