Opposition leader congratulates Odayne Richards on WC bronze medal win
Jamaica's Opposition leader has paid tribute to Odayne Richards who today won the bronze medal in the Men's Shot Put, the country's first World Championship medal in the event.
Richards made his best throw of 21.69 metres on his first attempt for third place behind Joe Kovacs of the United States, who made a shot of 21.93 metres on his fifth attempt. Germany's David Storl, who threw a distance of 21.74 metres, was the silver medallist.
Holness says Richards' performance has placed the country in the spotlight and shows that the nation's talent in track and field extends beyond the sprints.
