The Ministry of Education says it has procured 40,000 pieces of furniture valued at over $50 million for infant, primary and secondary schools across the island.

Chief Education Officer in the Ministry, Dr Grace McLean, told JIS News that delivery of the furniture to schools commenced in the first week of July and should be completed by the last week in August.

She said that for the new school year emphasis is being placed on procuring child-appropriate furniture for the early childhood level.

Meanwhile, the chief education officer said approximately 100 schools across the six education regions were identified for critical repairs valued at $47 million.
