Human rights group, Stand Up for Jamaica, says the recent cases of police personnel being arrested in relation to criminal activities show that the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is important to the rooting out of rogue cops.

The group says those who have been bashing INDECOM are being short-sighted and do not have the best interest of justice.

Stand Up for Jamaica says the work of INDECOM is to make members of the force more accountable and respect the rights of Jamaicans and it should be supported.

The human rights group argues that, contrary to the views of critics including politicians, Jamaica's political culture do more to influence the factors which drive crime and not the actions of INDECOM.

It cites poverty, the lack of opportunities and garrison politics as factors which should be addressed as it believes that this will help with Jamaica's crime problem.
