Local Government Minister Noel Arscott says the new Building Act is being treated as a high priority and should be in place by the end of the year.

Noting that the new Act is a substantial document, Arscott says the revised bill is now being finalised by the Chief Parliamentary Counsel.

He says Cabinet approval will be sought before it is tabled in the House of Representatives.

The revised bill is expected to facilitate the adoption and efficient application of the National Building Code.

The Minister says additional consultations are being conducted on the bill and that there could be some modifications.

He was addressing the recent launch of Engineers’ Week 2015 at the National Works Agency’s St Andrew offices.
