Thwaites reminds no child should be kept out of school
One the eve of the re-opening of schools, Education Minister Ronald Thwaites is reminding that no child should be kept away from school, except for reasons cited in the Education Code.
Speaking this morning at a church service at the St Luke's Anglican Church in Cross Roads, St Andrew, Thwaites said data shows that about 20 per cent of students attend school irregularly, many of whom eventually drop out. He says many young people who attend school infrequently or drop out become vulnerable to criminality.
Thwaites says parents and guardians should, therefore, ensure that their children attend school regularly.
He says the community and the church should also be alert to ensure students are in school when in session.
