Institute of Jamaica says sorry to Desmond McKenzie
The Institute of Jamaica has apologised to West Kingston Member of Parliament, Desmond McKenzie, not inviting him in the ceremonial opening of the Simon Bolivar Cultural Centre in his constituency.
The ceremony was held on Sunday and saw officials from the Jamaica and Venezuelan governments participating in the event.
Mr. McKenzie subsequently complained that he felt disrespected that he was not included in the ceremony.
He accused the government of playing politics.
In a letter of apology to the MP, the Institute’s Executive Director, Anne Marie Bonner, said the absence of an invitation was an oversight.
Bonner also said the agency, which has responsibility for the cultural centre, regrets the error and is seeking to assure that there will be no recurrence.
