PNP General Secretary Paul Burke noted that the conference is the PNP’s highest decision-making body, with the power to: “remove, install and fix the party’s problems”.

The leadership of the governing People’s National Party (PNP) has indefinitely postponed plans to hold a selection contest in North East St Elizabeth.

Businessman Evon Redman is seeking to unseat incumbent Member of Parliament Raymond Pryce as the PNP’s candidate in the upcoming general elections, widely expected before year end.

The contest has, however, sparked tensions among supporters of both men.

However, speaking to The Gleaner-Power106 News Centre this morning, PNP General Secretary Paul Burke said there would be no selection contest in the constituency before the party’s upcoming annual conference.

In a subtle warning to both men, Burke noted that the conference is the PNP’s highest decision-making body, with the power to: “remove, install and fix the party’s problems”.
