Canadian couple for court Friday on drug charges
A Canadian couple is to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Friday on drug charges.
Forty-nine-year-old Wayne Lewis and his wife 37-year-old Nadine Lewis, both of Ontario, Canada, were arrested on Wednesday and a quantity of ganja and hashish seized.
It's reported that about 4:30 p.m., Nadine Lewis arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport and was preparing to board a flight, destined for Toronto Canada, when a routine security check was conducted.
During the search, six pineapples were seen in her luggage, according to the police.
A further inspection of the pineapples revealed that they contained compressed ganja weighing about 12 pounds, and hashish, weighing about two pounds.
Further investigations led the police to premises in Norbrook, Kingston 8 where Wayne Lewis was seen.
The police say a search of the room he occupied revealed an additional quantity of ganja and hashish.
The Lewises were subsequently charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking preparatory steps to export ganja.
