Economy and growth agenda the focus at Cabinet retreat
The Office of the Prime Minister is reporting that matters of the economy and the growth agenda are the primary items of focus at the Cabinet Retreat now underway.
The two-day retreat began yesterday and is part of the preparations for the 2016/2017 financial year.
The Office of the Prime Minister said on Monday, the Cabinet gave particular focus to the growth agenda and opportunities to expand growth.
- The expansion of the Business Process Outsourcing sector to create 18,000 new jobs.
- The addition of over 6,000 hotel rooms, including the Integrated Resort Developments over the next three years.
- New Agro Parks and;
- Energy sector projects including renewables.
The Cabinet also reviewed the current economic performance and discussed prospects for the future, according to the OPM.
In addition, it said there were deliberations on wage settlements and the required budgeting adjustments.
Proposals made by Members of Parliament during the recent State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives were also taken into account.
At today's session the Retreat will look at among other things; the strategic priorities for 2016/17 and 2017/18; as well as budget priorities for the next financial year.
