Mayor Barnswell wants safer highway for Clarendon

Scean Barnswell told councillors at Thursday’s parish council month meeting that he is prepared to seek the assistance of the National Works Agency and the Road Safety Unit to help make the busy highway safer.

The chairman of the Clarendon Parish Council, Scean Barnswell, has joined calls for safety measures along the Bustamante Highway in the parish.

Upset residents have been calling for the construction of an overhead bridge for pedestrians.

The calls intensified after the death of seven-year-old schoolgirl, Abigail Whyne, who was allegedly hit while crossing the Highway.

The death of the schoolgirl led to two days of protests by upset residents.

Whyne was a student at the Palmer's Cross Primary and Junior High School.
