Stop flushing solid items down toilets, warns NWC

The National Water Commission (NWC) is warning members of the public not to flush solid items down toilets as it can cause an overflow of sewage.

There have been recent complaints from residents in several communities about raw sewage overflowing in their homes.

The NWC says this will happen when certain items are flushed down a toilet.

It points out that items such as cigarettes, condoms, and female sanitary products choke the NWC’s sewerage systems and result in a back-up of sewage in homes and overflow on roadways.

The NWC is urging its customers to dispose of their waste responsibly.
