Jamaica Debates Commission prepares for election debates
The Jamaica Debates Commission (JDC) says it is moving swiftly towards staging election debates, ahead of the imminent general elections.
According to JDC Chairman, Noel daCosta, based on statements from senior officials, it appears that general elections are to be held shortly.
He says the JDC has already approached the country's political parties to outline its proposal for the staging of its usual debates.
The JDC has produced and presented debates for all national and local elections since 2002.
For general elections, three debates are held covering Social Issues, Economic Issues and a Leaders’ debate between the contenders for the office of Prime Minister.
Traditionally the debates are staged in the period between Nomination Day and Election Day.
The JDC is a partnership between the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce and Media Association Jamaica.
