Disabilities council says public engaging disabled persons more
The Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities says more persons from the wider society are coming forward to engage members of the disabled community.
The Council’s executive director Christine Hendricks believes this is due to the work of the disabled community and enactment of the Disabilities Act last year.
Hendricks says more entities, both in the public and private sector, are now seeking to include the disabled in their policies and direction.
Her comments come on the eve of Disabilities Awareness Week, which begins tomorrow under the theme: 'Inclusion Matters: Access and Empowerment of all People of all Abilities'.
