Three arrested in St James ganja bust to be charged this week
Three people, including a woman, are expected to be charged this week in connection with a multi-million dollar ganja bust in St James.
The more than 1100 pounds of contraband valued at about J$5.6 million were seized during two-day operation last Thursday and Friday.
Reports from investigators are that, last Thursday, a Toyota Corolla motor car was intercepted on the Lilliput main road in the parish. It was searched and nine knitted bags containing compressed ganja weighing about 365.5 pounds were found. The driver of the vehicle was arrested.
A day later, investigations led the police to a residence on Willow Drive, Pitfour in St James.
The house was searched and 18 knitted bags containing ganja were found. An additional eight bags were discovered in a Nissan motorcar that was parked in the yard, making a total of 760 pounds. A man and a woman were taken into custody.
The three arrested are to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys, after which it is expected that they will be charged.
The police are encouraging persons to report all criminal activities by calling the Police 119 emergency number, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.
