The NWA says it will need to trap and mop the oil and wash the roadway before the area can be considered safe for motorists.

The National Works Agency (NWA), says Fern Gully has been closed with immediate effect.

The NWA says it will need the time to clean the oil leak which was caused when the bus overturned and caught fire.

Communication and Customer Services Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the agency is mobilising a work crew to respond to the situation which has affected a large section of the roadway including some drains.

The NWA says it will need to trap and mop the oil and wash the roadway before the area can be considered safe for motorists.

As a result, Shaw says he does not expect the roadway to be reopened for the next 48 hours.
